The book has been written by head and neck cancer sufferers for those currently battling the illness.

‘The Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Support Group’ has drawn on the experience of patients and carers from all over the world for the book.

Football legend Bryan Robson has contributed to the book and it contains a number of personal patient stories from across the UK and abroad.

The former Manchester United and England star tells in the book how he was diagnosed in 2012 after doctors discovered a tumour. The tumour was successfully removed, and after a course of radiotherapy he was given the all clear.

Bryan, known as Captain Marvel by fans, said then: “It was great news. Things are going so well for me and I received lots of messages and had great support from fans throughout the world especially West Brom, Middlesbrough, Thailand and obviously United.” He “wishes everyone the very best for their personal cancer journey”.

Chris Curtis, CEO of The Swallows and World Cancer Ambassador, said: “The book is the culmination of more than three years work. We hope that the experiences shared in this book will help people currently grappling with the ups and downs of head and neck cancer through to a successful conclusion.
