The Swallows Head & Neck Support Group is very instrumental in raising the awareness of head & neck cancer in the community and getting together patients to share their experiences. Presentations are organised on a regular basis by guest speakers to talk about issues relating to various aspects of cancer.
The Swallows are very instrumental in supporting my department in the management of head & neck cancer patients. They have also been helping patients get to the radiotherapy unit at Preston, a site 15 miles away when patients cannot arrange their own transport and they offer a 24/7 Support Line.
The Swallows are now well known in Lancashire and other hospitals in the region are requesting Swallows assistance in setting up local support units.
I have been very impressed by the leadership, innovation and support The Swallows are providing to our head & neck cancer patients and carers. Using volunteers to raise funds was an important part of the speed they reached their goal and a big thank you goes to the whole team.
Very honoured to be asked to be a Patron of the charity.
