I am a registered therapeutic radiographer, health services researcher and educator, working across cancer care, research, education and national health policy. Throughout my career, I have been driven by a commitment to improving cancer care and to addressing the inequalities that shape how people experience diagnosis, treatment and life beyond cancer.
My professional background spans clinical practice, academic roles and national strategic work. I have worked in NHS cancer services, universities, professional policy and practice, and third sector organisations, including Cancer Research UK and Public Health England – supporting improvements in cancer care, education and workforce development. I currently work across education at a UK professional body and as a Health Services Research Fellow at a UK University, focusing on improving care experiences and outcomes for people affected by cancer.
At the heart of my work is a strong focus on person-centred care, lived experience and reducing health inequalities. I completed a PhD exploring the experiences of people living with both cancer and severe mental illness, identifying the needs of this often under represented population. My wider research interests include health improvement in oncology, and ensuring that care is designed around what matters most to patients and families. I am passionate about research that leads to real world change and helps shape compassionate, equitable care.
Alongside my professional experience, I bring a personal understanding of cancer. Supporting a close family member through head and neck cancer has given me first hand insight into the challenges of a cancer diagnosis and its treatments, particularly for younger people and families. This experience has strengthened my appreciation of the importance of holistic support, clear communication and the vital role that charities play in helping people feel informed and supported.
As a patron for The Swallows, I hope to bring together clinical expertise, research insights and lived experience to support the great work of this charity. I am committed to advocating for high-quality, compassionate and equitable care for everyone affected by head and neck cancer, and to amplifying patient and family voices so that services continue to learn, improve and respond to the needs of those requiring care.
Outside of work, I value time spent outdoors and with my family. I enjoy walking, being in nature and spending time with our dog, simple but important ways to recharge.
